Here's the chair before the slipcover... Actually, this is after I took the slipcover off, but it didn't change any. It was still ugly.
Here it is with the slipcover...not a whole lot better. Let's face it, design-wise, recliners just don't cut it. However, like Patrick Swayze said to Demi Moore in the movie Ghost when she said his recliner didn't go with anything, "It goes with me," the same was true of this recliner... It went with Jim, so I was stuck trying to make it work. At least with the slipcover it blended with the decor instead of adding a conflicting color.
So now you're probably wondering what I did to make it look better. Well, I added a pillow and waved my magic wand.... and presto-chango! (I know he's going to make me remove the pillow when he gets home!)
Okay... You got me. I didn't really makeover the chair. We found this one on Craigslist.
I was just poking around Craigslist and found this chair listed. I showed it Jim and commented that it kind of looked like the chair on Frasier. He agreed and asked if I could live with that one... Well, since the chair like Frasier's is not in our budget since it's over $3,000...yes, I could live with this one.
It's still leather and it still reclines, but it's much more attractive and the size fits our room better. Actually, because of the ottoman, this chair takes up more floor space than the other chair did, but this one doesn't take up as much visual space, which makes the room feel bigger.
This style still isn't what I would truly like for our decor, but compromise is part of marriage. I'm not decorating for a magazine, and Jim deserves a comfortable chair that he likes. I can work around this one as far as decor goes much more easily than I could the other chair.
Here are a couple of sofas I'm thinking about to go with Jim's new chair.
I like this one a lot. I'd get it in a taupe velvet, which I think would be very rich looking. The nice thing about getting it in velvet is even though both Jim's chair and the sofa would be taupe, they could be off in shades and it would be okay because they aren't the same kind of fabric. The thing I'm concerned about with this sofa is that the arms are so low. How comfortable will it be when I put my feet up?
It's really hard to choose, because they're very different, but they're both very versatile. What do you think?
