Decorating Inspirations: Offices

One of the things I miss from my apartment is my office space.  I don't have any office space in our little home. We keep talking about making space for me in Jim's office, but so far other things have been a higher priority.

My old apartment
This was my office in my apartment. Unfortunately, I can't find a better picture that really shows it off. One of the things I liked about it was that I could close it up and hide all of my papers. I also liked that I had space to paint, something I haven't done since I moved in with Jim. Right now my armoire desk in is storage, but I keep trying to find a way to fit it in our house.

So the thing I'm struggling with is finding my own space here that reflects me. We have so little space, and for the past year and a half, my space has been the coffee table--something I hate, because the living room always looks messy. I think everyone just needs a space of their own, which is something I don't have right now.

That's why I drool over these spaces. I don't know how I'll ever incorporate them into our current house, but maybe we can figure out something.

I love, love, love this chair! I would love to have this in my office space. The burlap with the white is just a very clean, classic look. And if you look at the detail on the chair legs, the corners and the top of the back, you can see it has a little romance to it.

I see this one cut into a corner of a kitchen or maybe in a converted hallway closet. I like the way it is built-in, but still out of the way.

Would you believe this picture was actually one of the pictures that inspired me for our living room paint color? I've actually incorporated a lot of this look into our living room with the color, the black frames, and the white trim molding. I also like the blind on the window. The office feels a little cramped to me...I like things a little less cluttered, but overall, I like this room.

Why is that ladders make a room feel bigger? I love the library ladder and the huge bulletin board. Being short, a ladder would expand the storage space for me; however, I'm terrified of climbing them!

I like this desk. It looks like a library table, which is something that has always appealed to me. I am wondering how they hid the cords though.  Any ideas on how they did that?

This is another chair I really like. I don't love it like I do the other one. It doesn't look as comfortable or as romantic, but I wouldn't turn it down if I had a chance to have it!

Jim and I both love the leaning bookshelves. We have a book here at home that tells how to build them, and Jim's been checking them out. I don't know where we'd put them though. I like this office because it feels so airy. The desk has an airy feeling with the open storage that mimics the leaning bookshelves.

I think this is a Pottery Barn office... Doesn't it look like one? I really like the corner layout of this desk. Corner desks seem to have a lot more work space than regular desks.

Now this is something that I think we might be able to carve out space for in our utility room. We would have to build some walls so I didn't have to look at the water heater and furnace, but it would provide a lot of storage and a little workspace that was just mine.

I debated about showing this one to you. But I love the artwork that's behind the desk. I don't know if it's a bulletin board or not, but I think it would be a great idea to make one like this out of fabric. It adds so much texture to the room.

This looks like such a cozy little corner. I think the skirted desk is adorable and practical at the same time. Can you imagine all the storage that's under that skirt. Now, that's something I think I could incorporate somehow, if I found the space, in our little house. I also like the contrast of the red with the white. It's just such a cheerful room.

There is nothing more relaxing than green and white together. This green is more of a chartreuse, which is a very contemporary green--at least to me it seems contemporary. Here is another library table. One of the things I like about library tables is they also show them sitting in the middle of the room. I still don't know what they do with the cords though. It does seem like they would be a tripping hazard.

Simplicity at its finest. I don't know if it would be enough space for me, or that I could keep it that organized, but I do like how sweet it looks.

Okay...this one is probably my favorite. As you can see, this one is most like the other rooms that I've shared with you. I love the romance of this. However, it doesn't have enough storage space for my needs.

Now this is more like it. I love this white secretary desk. It has display space for books and nick-nacks. It has desk space that can be closed.  And, it has storage space underneath. This is actually the most practical for our little house. If I could find one of these on craigslist for a reasonable price, I'd snatch it up, paint it white, and replace my book cases in my living room.

Please leave a comment!  I love having conversations with all of you!

I would love a room of my own. I share my craft space with DH. He has a large train layout around the walls and it cramps my area. I do have another room, but I like to leave it for guests. I do love the selection you have chosen, and am now wondering whether guests would consider sleeping in a tent. LOL

Well, if I came to visit your beautiful island, I wouldn't complain about sleeping in a tent!! LOL! I've seen lots of guest rooms that double as craft rooms. I think most guests understand that it just isn't practical to have a room strictly for guests any more. The disadvantage is that it is hard to work on crafts and such when you do have guests if your guest room doubles as a craft room.
