Vintage Parties

Sometimes I think everyone has become too casual when it comes to parties. I remember when I was little, my parents would go to parties, and they always got dressed up. My mom always wore a dress and my dad always wore dress trousers. I always loved seeing
them dressed that way. In my eyes, they looked very elegant and sophisticated.

And then the tables... Do you remember how they set the tables with the tall taper candles being lit and some kind of centerpiece? And, of course, the table always had a seasonally appropriate tablecloth.

Even family holiday meant wearing something nice. We would have never dreamed of showing up to Christmas in blue jeans. I remember getting a new Easter dress, shoes, hat and gloves every year.  I miss that...

Now a days, everybody seems to be very casual, wearing jeans and sweaters to parties. There's a sense of celebration missing from them now...nothing that sets parties apart from every other day.  There's nothing wrong with that, of course. It's great to just hang out with friends...

But I can't help think that we've lost something special by not getting dressed up for a dinner party with friends at each other's homes. I think it would be nice if we treated getting together like a special occasion a little more often.

What do you think?
