I was shocked!

You can't see it very well, but do you see that green chair in the picture above?  That is a chair that my mom gave to me back in 2007 when I moved into my apartment.  It's an old chair, very well made, heavy, solid, but the upholstery is ugly!  Still I love that chair. It has good lines.

When she gave it to me, I couldn't afford to get it re-upholstered, so I ordered fabric paint online and spray painted it black. By the way, I do NOT recommend spray painting fabric, even with fabric stray paint. It looked better, but the fabric became stiff and scratchy. Maybe it would have worked better on a different fabric, but the paint just sat on top of the fabric and didn't soak in at all.  On top of that, Jasper's hair stuck to it like a lint brush!!!

I have been talking about re-upholstering it ever since I moved into Jim's house, and he's always been good with it. We've just never done anything about it. So this black lint brush chair has been sitting in our living room, and the only one who sits on it is Jasper. So finally today Jim and I went shopping for upholstery fabric!

When we got to the store, I showed him the fabric I liked. I picked out a very contemporary tan fabric with a black swirly design on it. There is a part of me that kind of wishes we had gotten that fabric, because I really think it would have looked great on that chair.

Here's what shocked me, Jim's favorite fabric was a brown damask! Yep, he liked a feminine, very elegant fabric, and that's what we got.  The two woman at the checkout loved it.  They thought it was so pretty, and it is.  It is going to look gorgeous on the chair, and give it a more formal look.

The fabric at the side is similar to the fabric we chose, and it's actually going to go very well with our living room. Our living room is painted two shades of brown.  Now I just have to decide if I want to keep the legs painted black or if I want to paint them a creamy white... I'm kind of leaning towards a creamy white.

What do you think?  Creamy white legs or black?
