Small Moments

My lovely platter
Yesterday I posted about the lovely platter I found at a yard sale. I shared how it made me feel good. And, as I always do, I posted a link about it on my Facebook page. It was then that two very sweet friends of mine told me how much they enjoy reading my blog, and they both complemented me on how well I express the small moments in my life.

This got me thinking...

It may be the big moments in life that seem important, but it is in the small moments when we really live our lives.  I mean really... Think about it...

Do you remember your graduation day or your wedding day. You looked forward to it, you planned for it, you experienced it and then it was over.  Do you remember how quickly it passed?  Do you remember thinking, 'boy that was over too fast'?

It was kind of a let down when all the fuss was done, because we don't live in those moments.

A beautiful moment from our first vacation!
Now think about that time you created something beautiful, when you framed a much loved picture of your family, or did a craft with your child.  What about when you walked to the end of the pier with the special person your life or laughed so hard that pop came out of your nose when you were your friends?

There wasn't a let down following those moments. You didn't think, "boy that was over too fast."  No, I bet you said, "we need to do that again." Can you imagine saying that after your wedding or graduation?  "Gee, honey, that was fun, we should do that again next week."  No, you don't say that because the big moments usually only happen once.

We don't live in the big moments.  We live in the small moments. That's why we have to savor them and enjoy them.  We need to make the small moments as special and meaningful as the big moments.

Have you ever heard people talk about couples who had beautiful weddings. They planned everything down to the last detail, and everything was perfect. The bride was beautiful, the groom was handsome, the meal served at the reception was delicious... Then a year later you hear that bride and groom complaining about how unhappy they are and about how they're thinking about getting a divorce.  Those couples were living for the big moments. They made sure the big moment (their wedding) was perfect, but they didn't plan for the small moments (their marriage).

That's why today's post is about the Small Moments...  Live in the small moments, because there are a lot more small moments in life than big ones.

(Thanks to Amy and Melinda for the inspiration for this post and for the inspiration for the new name for my blog.  "Loribeth's Romance" never really expressed what this blog was/is about, but "Small Moments" expresses it perfectly!)

A lovely change. I do so agree about the small moments in life. I have been made very aware of that this week. I approve of the blog name change!

Thank you! I hadn't really thought about it before. But I'm sure, knowing what you're going though, that the small moments are meaning a lot right now.
I'm glad you approve of the name change!

You couldn't have said it better Lori! You gave us all something to think about and it couldn't have been expressed better!! Thanks for the food for thought! =-)
